Arkansas Archaeology

      From M. R. Harrington 1960

Arkansas has many interesting archaeological sites. The Arkansas bluff dwellers are of particular interest to me. Their atlatl style is very unique. Note the finger rest peg that goes all the way through the atlatl (See illustration of Bluff dweller.). The Parkin Site is a key site in understanding Hernando De Soto’s travels in the 1500s. The article below by Jeffrey Mitchem is very informative. I also found a great article on line worth reading called Beyond Bluff Dwellers and the accompanying website is also fascinating.
