CHAIR/SEATED METAL/WOOD MARTIAL ART EXERCISE RING: FOR SENIORS AND THE PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED
(A Quick Course Guide)
By Joseph J. Truncale
$8.00
One of the best and least known pieces of equipment used in numerous martial art systems is the bamboo and iron rings. Those involved in the martial art systems of Wing Chun, Praying Mantis, Tai Chi, Qigong, and other martial arts are well known for using various size rings in their training routines. However, you do not have to take up a martial art to enjoy the many benefits from training in this versatile and fantastic exercise training aid.
This manual along with numerous other books focus on workouts for seniors and those with physical limitations and balance problems. All the exercises are done from a chair or a seated position. Actually there are many exercises you can also do on your back using the martial art exercise ring. There are numerous ring sizes that are used in some martial art systems but this program is designed to be used in circles with a diameter from 8 ½ to 13 inches.
Even though this is a comprehensive book on the use of the iron and bamboo Martial arts ring; nevertheless, you should also keep in mind that this manual is not the last word on the wide variety of uses you can do with exercise rings. If you use your own imagination you can probably come up with more exercise movements using this highly versatile martial art exercise tool. 8-1/2″X11″ 97 Pages
SHOTOKAN KARATE, PRACTICAL COMBAT KARATE FOR THE STREET
By Joseph J. Truncale
$8.00
Shotokan Karate is one of the most popular traditional Karate styles in the world. The standard Shotokan karate class consists of training in three primary areas. They are practice of the basics or Kihon, the practice of kata (forms) and sparring (kumite). The sparring practice may consist of five times sparring, three times sparring, one time sparring, semi-free sparring and free sparring. Though karate is one of the most effective systems of self-defense, this area of karate is practiced the least in most traditional dojos. This book will focus only on the self-defense aspects of Karate. This book is not aimed at the beginner but the intermediate and experienced Karate-ka who understands and knows the basics and kata of karate. Without the solid foundation in Shotokan karate basics, true self-defense skills cannot be developed. This book will briefly cover the basic weapons of the body and the difference between practical self-defense and dojo free sparring practice. 8-1/2″X11″ 97 Pages
USE OF THE KNIFE AND KNIFE DEFENSE FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT AND SECURITY OFFICERS
By Joseph J. Truncale
$8.00
Fifty years ago, police officers seldom carried knives and very little, if any, classes were given in how to counter a knife attack. However, today most officers do carry some kind of edged weapon along with their firearm and there are many training courses on the use of the knife in emergency situations. I have been teaching basic knife handling and knife defense techniques to law enforcement and security officers for more than twenty years. The philosophy of Pro Systems and Bushi Satori Ryu has always been based upon a simple principle. In order to understand how to defend against a knife threat or attack, one must learn basic knife handling techniques. The purpose of my edged weapons course was not to make knife fighters of officers, but to emphasize the danger knives pose to law enforcement and security officers. 8-1/2″X11″ 58 Pages
TANTO JUTSU
By Joseph J. Truncale
$8.00
Tanto Jutsu (Dagger or short blade art) was taught along with Kenjutsu (Sword art) in most Japanese Bujutsu schools. The Samurai carried at least two blades. The long sword, (Katana) and the half or short sword (Wakizashi). The Samurai many times also carried a Tanto with him in his belt (Obi). Some Samurai carried a Katana (Long sword) and a large (12-inch) Tanto (Short blade or dagger) instead of the Wakizashi (short sword). The techniques and tactics of using the Tanto are for the most part, the same ones used in Kenjutsu. The purpose of this manual is to provide a basic introduction to Tanto Jutsu. This manual was designed for Bushi Satori Ryu Jujitsu and Karate students to provide a basic outline of the Tanto Jutsu techniques. This manual was written to be used in conjunction with actual training with a certified Bushi Satori Ryu instructor. As with all the martial arts, nothing can take the place of training under a competent instructor. 8-1/2″X11″ 67 Pages
USE OF THE MINI-BATON (YAWARA STICK) FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT AND SECURITY OFFICERS
By Joseph J. Truncale
$8.00
A Mini-Baton can be any piece of wood, plastic, or metal, which is no longer than seven and one half inches in length, and not more than one and one fourth inches in diameter. Some of the most popular Mini-Batons include the Monadnock Persuader Baton series, the Kubotan, the Mini-Mag flashlight, the Koga SD1 Baton, the short stick and the traditional martial art Yawara stick. This is a manual on the use of the Mini-Baton. You can use whatever short stick, Yawara stick or mini-baton model in learning the material in this text. Many officers carry a mini-flashlight, a Persuader Baton or other types of short sticks. Any of these items are suitable to use in this Mini-Baton manual. This is a basic course in the use of the mini-baton. There are numerous techniques using the short stick and this manual was written to only cover the basic use of this control and self-defense tool. 8.5″X11″ 75 Pages
TRAINING ALONE IN COMBATIVES & SELF-DEFENSE
(TECHNIQUES TO IMPROVE YOUR SKILL AND ABILTIES IN COMBATIVES)
BY JOSEPH J. TRUNCALE
$8.00
There is nothing like the interaction with fellow students in a martial arts and selfdefense class. However, as a wise Karate instructor told me, “If student only trains in class, that student will never progress beyond the basic skills.” I have found that most serious martial artists, self-defense students and those training in combatives spend more time training on their own than in a class setting. This is because most martial artists and self-defense students only attend regular classes from one to three times a week. It is hoped this manual will serve as a guideline to help you become more proficient in training alone and combatives and self-defense. 8.5″X11″ 72 Pages
THE MIGHTY PEN, YOUR SELF-DEFENSE FRIEND
The Use of the Pen as a Tactical Self-Defense Tool
BY Joseph J. Truncale
$8.00
In a real life physical confrontation, the pen is not mightier than a sword. Nevertheless, it is an excellent practical self-defense tool available to any citizen. In our modern society the fear of terrorism has made people realize the importance of awareness, self-protection and self-defense. Since the attack on September 11, 2001, security measures have made it more difficult for honest citizens to carry any self-defense tool when traveling. The simple tool is the pen. Even though recently there has been an enthusiastic interest in what are now called “Tactical Pens” which are often bought by law enforcement officers and others in the military and security fields. The truth is any type of pen or even a pencil can be used for self-defense. This book will cover the various models, materials, and the most effective pens to carry, as both a writing instrument and a great close quarter self-defense weapon. The important thing to remember is that the pen is just a tool to use with your other body weapons to defend yourself. 8.5″X11″ 56 Pages
SEATED ZEN KARATE: FOR SENIORS AND THE PHYSICALLY
CHALLENGED
BY Joseph J. Truncale
$8.00
Growing more mature has made me realize that the art of karate is not just for the young, but can also be an activity for people of all ages and abilities. This is the reason for the creation of Bushi Satori Ryu/ Pro-Systems Seated Zen Karate. The reason this karate manual is different than any other karate book is because the focus is not on sport or tournament play. It also does not include kata, stances and body shifting movements. This book was written for those who love karate, or would love to study the art aspects of karate, but cannot practice the techniques standing because of their age or related medical problems. Seated Zen Karate is done slowly most of the time, focusing on the entire range of movement. This makes it a mindful exercise and a form of moving Zen meditation. It can also be practiced at full speed for practical self-defense. 8-1/2″x11″ 48 Pages

Modern Kenjutsu
By Joseph J. Truncale
$8.00
This manual serves as a primer for the use of the Tanto, Wakazashi and Katana. The manual represents the core of instruction in the Bushi Satori Ryu system of Kenjutsu. Bushi Satori Ryu Kenjutsu does not represent any one specific historical line of Kenjutsu. The Bushi Satori Ryu system, founded by Soke Joseph Truncale is a modern eclectic system. The material draws from numerous sources. The primary systems include Kashima Shinden Jikinshin Kage Ryu, Muso Ryu, and Kukishin Ryu. The Bushi Satori Ryu system of Kenjutsu offers a streamlined, modern interpretation of traditional sword arts which is readily applicable to the use of edged weapons today. 8-1/2″x11″ 158 Pages
PRO-SYSTEMS COMBATIVES: VOLUME 1
OFFICIAL COURSE MANUAL FUNDAMENTALS AND PRINCIPLES
BY Joseph J. Truncale
$8.00
This is the first volume of the Pro-Systems Combatives (PSC) system. This manual has all the basic techniques, principles and essential warm up drills required to learn the entire basic Pro-Systems Combatives (PSC) selfdefense/offense system. This volume also covers responses to punching attacks, kicking attacks, wrist/arm grab attack counters, body grab counters and drills. Interestingly, the self-defense system known today as combatives is considered by some people as being relatively new compared to the majority of martial arts. However, this is a false assumption. Close quarter combat techniques have been around since the dawn of man. It has developed over the centuries to become one of the most effective methods of self-defense ever created. The reason for its efficiency is clear. Combatives or Close Quarter Combat was developed out of the necessity to train people for war. Ancient civilizations had to create methods of combat in order to train as many of their soldiers as possible in the shortest period of time. A close quarter combat system had to be developed that was simple and effective. The great thing about combatives is that its history is well recorded and the modern form of close quarter combat can be traced back to a handful of early pioneers in the field of military self-defense. 8-1/2″x11″ 108 Pages
SAMURAI AEROBICS FOR TOTAL FITNESS
THE KENJUTSU/KENDO AEROBICS PROGRAM
By Joseph J. Truncale
$8.00
The ancient Samurai of Japan realized the importance of being in the very best physical condition. Though they may not have heard of “aerobics,” they knew in order to win and survive the long battles took enormous endurance. They understood the concept of specificity of training. They would practice their sword cutting and thrusting techniques thousands of times every day to build their strength, power and endurance. The great thing about Samurai Aerobics is that students can also learn the basic principles of Kenjutsu using the Bokken (wooden sword) as they get into fantastic physical shape. 8-1/2″x11″ 55 Pages
THE PRO-SYSTEMS COMPLETE STRAIGHT BATON MANUAL FOR POLICE & SECURITY OFFICERS
BY JOSEPH J. TRUNCALE AND FERNAN VARGAS
$8.00
The straight stick has probably been used as a self-defense tool since a human made the first footprints on earth. Through the ages variations of the stick and staff have been created to make a better self-defense tool. The straight stick was turned into spears and swords. Understanding the basic use of the straight police baton makes it possible to use numerous other objects for self-defense. In fact, the same techniques taught for using the police baton relate to a host of stick fighting and sword arts such as Hanbo-Jutsu, Jo-Jutsu, Wakizashi-Jutsu and similar weapon combat systems. It is hoped this book will provide a basic overview of the many ways a straight baton can be used for self-defense, control and takedowns for law enforcement, security officers and martial artists studying weapons. 8-1/2″x11″ 82 Pages

KARATE MULTIPLE STRIKE TECHNIQUES FOR SELF-DEFENSE:
KARATE’S LEAST PRACTICED TECHNIQUES
BY Joseph J. Truncale, Rokudan
$8.00
The art of Karate can be beautiful and deadly. In most traditional schools, the three areas most emphasized include Basics (Kihon), Kata (forms), and sparring (Kumite). Street combat self-defense is seldom practiced. A technique that is part of most karate systems involves the use of double or multiple strikes; however, other than in a kata, these double or multiple strikes and blocks are almost never practiced as part of the traditional karate curriculum. For the purposes of this book, multiple strikes refer to two or more techniques thrown at the same time. This can include double blocks or a combination of blocking and striking at the same time. What this text will focus on is using two or more strikes at the same time for self-defense against one or more attackers. 8-1/2″x11″ 66 Pages
COMBAT MACHETE
Volume 1
Fundamentals
BY JOSEPH J. TRUNCALE AND FERNAN VARGAS
$8.00
The machete is a combination of a large knife, axe and a short sword and the practicality of this tool has made it popular all over the world. The term machete comes from the Spanish language and the first part of the name (Macho) means male or strong and used to refer to sledgehammers. There are numerous variations of the same tool depending on the specific area or country. The machete is popular all over South America, and also in places like Guyana, Barbados Grenada, Jamaica, Tobago and other countries. The machete is often used to cut through thick brush as well as for doing various jobs in agricultural communities. The machete is also used as a favorite weapon of many countries and has been used in numerous battles all over the world. It is a weapon used by many ethnic groups in West Africa. In the Philippines they also use a machete like tool called a “bolo” which is employed for chopping through the jungle and for combat. As a formal fighting art the Machete is taught in martial traditions such as, Mani, Capoeria, Kali, Silat, Guazabara, and Colombian esgrima de machete. Similar weapons are taught in various forms of Kung Fu, Krabi Krabong and historical western fencing arts. 8-1/2″x11″ 102 Pages
KARATE KATA: FACTS, LIES, AND MYTHS
BY Joseph J. Truncale
There have been so many books written on kata that some practitioners may wonder if there is a need for yet another book on karate kata. You will find this book approaches the subject in a completely different manner. I have been involved in karate training for more than fifty years. I have practiced and still practice most of the Shotokan karate kata literally thousands of times each in my fifty years of karate training. I have also practiced and observed numerous bunkai for each kata, attempting to make them work under real self-defense situations. However, I have come to some conclusions that will not be welcomed by those who practice karate like it was a religion rather than an art of self-defense and personal development. I approach this subject from a logical and scientific point of view rather than someone who views karate in a mystical and dogmatic way. 8-1/2″x11″ 72 Pages
CHAIR/SEATED TAI CHI/QIGONG/YOGA STRETCHING FOR SENIORS AND THE PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED (A Quick Course Guide)
BY Joseph J. Truncale
Tai Chi is a form of exercise and a martial art that was created more than one thousand years ago. Though it is still taught as a form of self-defense in many Tai Chi school, most people take Tai Chi for the health and fitness benefits. The word Tai Chi means “Grand Ultimate.” Though there are many gaps in the historical records of Tai Chi, many researchers think the first person who created Tai Chi was Chang San Feng, born 1270 AD. Though there are numerous Tai Chi styles being practiced today, most of the basic movements and principles are the same. The order of movements and other fine details may vary from one system to another, but the benefits of practice are the same. Joseph J. Truncale created Chair/Seated Tai Chi/Qigong/Yoga for seniors and those with medical issues who cannot do standing exercises. Tai Chi means the “Grand Ultimate.” Qigong means “Energy.” Yoga means “union” or “connection” and consists of exercises developing the physical, mental and spiritual development of those practicing this art. Tai Chi/Qigong/Yoga means “Grand Ultimate Vital Energy skill and union of mind, body and spirit.” 8-1/2″x11″ 60 Pages
HANBO-JUTSU: USE OF THE HANBO, CANE, WALKING STICK AND BATON FOR SELF-DEFENSE
BY Joseph J. Truncale
$8.00
The stick as a self-defense weapon has been around since the dawn of humankind. The first time early man picked up a stick and used it against an enemy may have been the beginning of weapon warfare. The beauty of the staff is that any length of stick can be employed as an effective self-defense tool. Most people relate the formal use of the staff, whether a Bo, Jo, Hanbo, Cane, Walking Stick and baton to the Asian martial arts. However, staff techniques for combat and self-defense were also developed to a high degree of sophistication in European countries as well. This book will focus on the use of the Hanbo, hooked cane, walking stick and straight police baton. The illustrations will include examples of how to use the Hanbo, cane, walking stick and police baton. 8-1/2″x11″ 69 Pages
FACTS AND FALLACIES ABOUT LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING AND DEFENSIVE TACTICS
Volume 2 of the Facts and Fallacies series
BY Joseph J. Truncale
$8.00
As a police officer I have been very fortunate to have worked in numerous areas of law enforcement. I was a patrol officer, evidence technician, juvenile officer, and detective, shooting range officer, defensive tactics and baton instructor. My passion and interest has always been in the martial art, self-defense, combatives, and shooting and defensive tactics fields. One of the advantages of working on a smaller agency is that I was able to do so many different jobs. As a street cop I quickly discovered what works and what does not work on the street. Most of the techniques I taught officers I actually used numerous times working the street. This does not mean the techniques always worked perfectly in every situation. Anyone who tells you the techniques and tactics you were taught at the academy ALWAYS work perfectly on the street is either a liar or has never handled resisting subjects on the street. In any case, it is hoped this basic guide will help law enforcement and security officers to be aware of what is fact and fiction when it comes to techniques and tactics. 8-1/2″x11″ 61 Pages
