FACTS AND FALLACIES ABOUT LAW ENFORCEMENT
FACTS AND FALLACIES ABOUT LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING AND DEFENSIVE TACTICS
Volume 2 of the Facts and Fallacies series
BY Joseph J. Truncale
As a police officer I have been very fortunate to have worked in numerous areas of law enforcement. I was a patrol officer, evidence technician, juvenile officer, and detective, shooting range officer, defensive tactics and baton instructor. My passion and interest has always been in the martial art, self-defense, combatives, and shooting and defensive tactics fields. One of the advantages of working on a smaller agency is that I was able to do so many different jobs. As a street cop I quickly discovered what works and what does not work on the street. Most of the techniques I taught officers I actually used numerous times working the street. This does not mean the techniques always worked perfectly in every situation. Anyone who tells you the techniques and tactics you were taught at the academy ALWAYS work perfectly on the street is either a liar or has never handled resisting subjects on the street. In any case, it is hoped this basic guide will help law enforcement and security officers to be aware of what is fact and fiction when it comes to techniques and tactics.
